EVERETT UNIT 437 BOARD MEETING OF 3/17/2019
The meeting was called to order by President JoAnn Smith at 6:24 pm. Present were JoAnn Smith, Turid Fredrickson, Marla Patterson, Sharon Erwin, Dave Fallen, Cliff Marx, and Ernie Staudt. We had two guests.
MINUTES:
Minutes were confirmed approved as per electronic approval. Dave has posted them on the website.
OLD BUSINESS:
SUNDAY game has started in Lynnwood, 3 ½ to 4 tables so far, sometimes as low as 2.
Need more publicity. Made announcements and had flyers at the sectional. Mary Ewing to put article in the Herald and Jo got one in the Seattle unit paper.
It was motioned and approved to buy a refurbished laptop for Lynnwood. Wayne is just too challenged by the tablet format. We hope this will the admin issues.
SECTIONAL: 163.5 tables, down 15 tables. First weekend of nice weather, Husky basketball and the fact that Eastside continues their Saturday game, which a large number of IN players. Our decreases matches others, so don’t have a drastic need to do anything but the following are suggestions:
Personally visit the IN games in the area a week or two before; reminding them of the playing bargain on Friday and offering to help them form teams and walk them through the process for Swiss.
Acoustics are terrible in the GYM. Will try to have signs posted of any important data that players need to know—especially session starting times. I will also try to wait until everyone is indeed quiet before I start.
Change Friday night starting time back to 7:30 pm. Only chance to get anyone who is working to appear.
Sunday Swiss works well with 7/7’s—we will continue the format. It is good to be done by 6pm.
Need to speed up the 0-200 play—not pressure them, but teach them that there is a time limit and a reasonable expectation for the pace of play. Ask David for a second clock.
Announce where the sections are located—have people placed there to stand up so everyone can see, as well as here. Too small for the signs used at Regionals.
Need a couple more trash cans—maybe we can donate a couple to the Hall to have on hand.
The entire unit needs to be thanked for their participation in a successful venture.
Some rumblings of players not playing nice. We need to reinforce that with the directors. We support and encourage ZT.
Some concern with Directors appearing to be standing around a lot, talking with each other and not paying attention to the game. Will send Jenni and Matt a note to that effect.
GNTs:
We need to get them on the same finishing page—it is unacceptable to have them finish 1 ½ behind the rest of us. It is a strain for me, Julie, David, and the clean up crew.
Tim and Matt both know we were unhappy. More discussions to come.
2nd Wednesday in May (the 8th) we will have all the financials settled by then and can discuss what, if anything, we want to do with our participation.
In general, we didn’t know they were there, until the ending time.
NEW BUSINESS:
Charity contributions tabled until May when we know the financial finals.
David rolled over one CD for a year at 2.45%.
Reminder to everyone that the Unit owns the Lynnwood club.
Meeting adjourned at 7:35pm. Next meeting 8 May 19 at 6:15pm at the club.
Respectfully submitted,
MARLA PATTERSON
